Let me tell you guys a secret, but you have to promise you’ll keep this between just us. Okay here goes…I don’t like Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
Gasp!
Yes, I know! I pride myself on being one of the most basic, feel good, cozy loving, comfort feeling girls ever, but in all actuality, I don’t like pumpkin much at all! The only pumpkin flavored anything I’ve tasted to this day that I enjoy is pumpkin bread, and I still make that every year for the occasion (check out my newest blog post and video on my annual pumpkin bread)!
So how do I survive the Fall? Like I said, I love the cozy comfort feelings I get with seasonal anything, drinks included. And while I don’t like the pumpkin ones, there are many more that bring the taste of Fall right to my mouth! I’ve found my own way of seasonal drinks and today, I want to share with you 3 Fall Drinks To Try When You Don’t Like Pumpkin Spice!
Everything But Pumpkin Spice Latte
So I did mention that I make pumpkin bread every year and one of the things that comes with baking is that you get to know what actually IS the secret ingredient in your dishes. And you best believe I found out that, for pumpkin bread, it’s not the pumpkin that makes it so delicious; it’s the spices! That’s probably why I love it so much! This is the only drink on this list that is self made (not to say that the others can’t be, but this one will have to be made at home).
So what are you going to need? Start with your coffee of choice (cream and sugar as needed), then sprinkle any or all of these add-ons if you’re feeling festive:
- Ground cinnamon
- Ground nutmeg
- Ground cloves
- Ground allspice (sparingly)
These are some of the spices that make pumpkin bread great. I especially love cinnamon and cloves. But any one of these spices will do wonders to spice up your coffee game!
Chai Tea Latte
Now before you knock me on the tea, let’s talk about Chai. Chai is SO strong and SO good that it’s hardly even classifiable with other teas. It’s almost like it’s not quite coffee but definitely not tea. It has a taste of it’s own and that taste is darn good. With this distinctive taste it already holds its own against the most bold qualities of other seasonal drinks. But the best part about Chai is that you can add just about anything you want to it. Caramel, almond milk, you name it and its instantly customized to your mood. I like to add vanilla and cinnamon to mine!
Horchata
This one’s for my zero caffeine pals. Yep, that’s an option, believe it or not! Now, some of y’all are going to think I’m crazy but I am just now discovering the delicious wonders of Horchata, and I am mind blown. If you don’t know (like me 6 months ago) Horchata is a Hispanic drink made with rice water, optional cream (milk or otherwise) and a whole lot of flavor (cinnamon being one of them). This drink is a great way to maneuver around a lot of the downsides of sugary caffeinated drinks without sacrificing taste. And it is kid friendly!
Tip:
CINNAMON! Literally add cinnamon to any drink (with discretion) and you’ve got an instant taste makeover! I once added cinnamon to my regular latte on the way out of a coffee shop and felt as if I ordered something brand new on the menu!
