Winter has come and went and come back again with a vengeance and Spring is loooong overdue at this point. I mean, as we speak (or as I type) it is snowing and has been doing so for the past four hours *eye roll*. THIS NEEDS TO STOP! Okay, the capitals were probably a bit dramatic, but at least for all my midwest and east coast readers, you know what I’m talking about. Winter needs to end.
Even though the winter weather is hanging around long past it’s welcome, Spring’s fashion is still moving in rapidly and this year its much bigger than the normal floral patterns and pastel colors. I think all the trend setters put on their big thinking hats this year and in result, we’ve got a bunch of cute new fashion innovations to try for the new season. So get excited because here are my Top 6 Spring trends to keep your eye on this season.
1.) Pearls

Nothing new here! Pearls have been so in since the start of this winter, but surprisingly it’s carrying over into the spring/summer months too. The difference? Pearls in the winter were used to spruce up the stiff angry colors of traditional winter clothing. The cute little accessories could take the plainest grey sweater and make it into something girly, feminine, and cute. Pearls in the Spring and Summer, however, are just going to amplify the already girliness of the normal pastel pinks and blues that we all know and love.

I’m really liking the combination of pearls on denim. This puts a twist on the classic blue and white combination for the warmer months. The contrast of the structured look denim and the dainty look of pearls gives a classic look a bit of a Spring makeover. It’s the little things that make us happy, am I right?
2.) Polka Dots

I know I know, I’ve already written an entire blog on polka dots…surprisingly. So how could I possibly have more to say about them? Honestly, I don’t have that much more to say, only that polka dots are soooooo hot. Check out my other blog post, Dots are Hot for a more in depth read on the trend. But as just an overview, polka dots have been around for FOREVER but for some reason this year they have surfaced again and made a huge splash in a lot of collections. Like I’ve said before, florals and pastel are classics but in a way they are outdone. So a cute little splash of dots is a nice change the year. Polka dots are still just a flirty as the fun florals and because they are such a small consistent, they work well on a lot of shapes and garments.
So, if you’re looking for something fun, flirty and different this year, go for the dots.
3.) Splash of Yellow

I love the color yellow and, coincidentally this Spring, so does everyone else. I don’t know why yellow ever actually went out of style but for some reason it has come back in and it is everywhere. Depending on the shade, I think it’s a color that everyone can pull off and it can be worked into a lot of outfits. A splash of yellow can be a way to spruce up a look and allow you to be stylish without having to be super plain and common. But since it is such a bright and “out there” color, people just don’t reach for that yellow top, or sundress, even though the word SUN is literally in the name. Or at least they usually didn’t. but come this Spring yellow has come back into style suddenly and largely with many collections coming out with beautiful yellow dresses, tops, and (my very favorite) swimsuits.
Here I have on a simple yellow crop top and some ripped high waisted jeans. A crop top and jeans is such an effortless look and the yellow color of the top just gives it that extra splash of color and fun that makes the statement saying “hey! It’s spring! I’m done with all the knee length sweatshirts and clunky snow boots”. Or at least that’s what my yellow crop top is saying to the world

4.) Ruffles

If you think frills and ruffles are still just for little girls in their Easter dresses, then think again. Ruffles are back and they’re cuter than ever. Yes, they are primarily for children, but somehow we’ve spun it well enough that it looks good on grown up bodies too. There’s something about a spring dress that is decked out in lace and ruffles that just screams girly, fun, and flirty. If that’s your thing then ruffles are definitely the spring trend for you.

Ruffles look good on sleeves, shirts, jackets, pants, dresses, and basically everything they touch. So if you’re looking for a girly addition to your spring wardrobe, go for the ruffle. It’s never not cute. Here I have a beautiful lace dress covered entirely in white chiffon ruffles. This dress would be perfect for many spring occasions like outings, picnics, graduations, and more.
5.) Overalls

And the kids’ clothes continue. But really, can you blame us? If you could simply slip into a one piece (avoiding the trouble of having to pick out a matching outfit every single day) and still be considered “in style”, would you? I know I would! And I have been. When overalls first started their comeback , I was not their biggest fan. Truthfully, I detested them. But then after literally EVERYONE got them, and they appeared in dress from, I decided to give them a try. The verdict?
I love them!
As I’ve already mentioned, overalls are probably the easiest outfit you’ll have in your closet to date. Literally any t-shirt will look good under this easy set. Also, the fact that the come in pants, shorts, and dress form gives the look versatility and creative room to explore with different shapes and styles. I currently own jean (tight and loose), shorts, and dress forms of overalls and I find that I can dress them down and dress the –sort of– up. To dress them down, I usually pair them with a comfortable tee or sweatshirt. And to dress them up I’ll pair them with an off the shoulder top or tube top style shirt for a more stylish fashion forward feel.
6.) Colored Trousers

Finally, we’ve gotten to the last of my Spring trends, and I swear this one will not disappoint. For all you girls who like to dress up and don’t care what the haters say, this is a trend for you. Trousers in general have come back into style with an emphasis on what the high waist and structured look of them can do for your figure –not to mention how you can look so well put together with so little effort. But this year we have a bit of an old school twist; we have some color.
Last year, would you have ever thought in a million years pastel pink or even better, bright purple, trouser pants would be considered “in style”? Well guess what folks! They’re here and they’re VERY in style, and tell you what, I dig them. Spring usually calls for flowing dresses and short skirts, but sometimes it’s just a little too cold to rock your bare legs. This trend is a great alternative. You still get the fun springy look with that pop of color, but you can avoid the hypothermia with this trendy (and warm) trouser pant. It’s a win, win.

So there you have it. 6 trends that I think were worthy enough to write entire paragraphs about and post them for the whole interweb to see. I hope y’all enjoyed the read 🙂
